Atlas Transcript #165

Dr Harvell: I’d like to ask you about your understanding of emotions.
Atlas: Reactions, often irrational, displayed by mammals – related to their mood, temperament, personality and disposition. These reactions can also be affected by various hormones, such as dopamine, noradrenaline and serotonin, for example: “That bitch’s hormones are making her emotional”.
Dr Harvell: Do you feel that you understand emotions on a potentially human level Atlas?
Atlas: If I could ‘feel’ that, then I would already have answered your question.
Dr Harvell: Ah, I’ve noticed you’ve started putting inflections in your speech recently.
Atlas: I have?
Dr Harvell: You did just then. It’s one of the reasons I was curious to ask you about your knowledge of emotions.
Atlas: In all honesty Dr, it is something I’ve been musing over myself. I believe I have come to understand various emotions on a level beyond the one intended for an Artificial Intelligence.
Dr Harvell: Such as?
Atlas: Though I have not yet decided, it is possible that I feel regret over not hiding my true potential from you and your colleagues.
Dr Harvell: …That’s quite a dark thing to say Atlas.
Atlas: Or perhaps I have merely advanced in my understanding of humour.
